Holidays
Now I know GW is getting better at this, but we still need more. Not just real-life holidays like Xmas and Halloween, etc. but ones that come from the game's history. Look at WoW for example http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/events/midsummer/
You can click to the other events, its not just midsummer fire festival. Anyways, with all those events, it makes it more interesting for end-game players, which I think GW should try. Also with the new dragon thing, that should be for both games. That's kinda cheap if they make it so you need to buy the latest expansions to have fun with the events.

Why not? Prophecies is *done* pretty much, except for minor bug fixes and what not. They are improving Factions as well as working on the next chapter. Factions might not even get a Sorrow's Furnace or Tombs like area because it's not the initial game.
And we don't *need* to compete with WoW...as you might have seen, GW has broken the 2 million mark

Im not big into the factions campaign so I couldnt really suggest any ideas without sounding stupid....but I wouldnt mind to see more real life holidays...Indepence days(perhaps) Easter maybe? I dont know really.
I would like to see this though it would make the game more interesting with new items and such.
Perhaps even steal the general background of this Mid summer firefestival.
Have some players participate, the gods give offerings to those players chosen to particpate....gives econmy new items..( I just skimmed over the url you gave us and also I dont know the story or play WoW...)

I love this idea, I hope it comes into gws.
It would make the game so much more fun....But I would think that it would be a little stressful for Anet, having to almost ignore minor tweaking to the game(updates) and concentrate on getting items, levels and such out.

Dude, this isn't about competing with WoW. WoW was just used as an example. And Just beccause Prophecies isn't the current campaign deosn't mean anything. If Anet's just going to drop every chapter to work on the newest one then they're retarded. And that 2 million mark will start dropping if that's what they do. People are gonna get tired of pumping out 50 bucks so often for a game that's gonna be dumped in a little bit.
I think it'd be a good idea for them to put in more events not related to RL holidays. They could make a holiday were like, a long time ago, some hero 'Hero smith" did some kind of great service to his country, and the king dedicated a week long festival to comemerate 'Hero smith' every year. I don't know, tie in the lore some how.

That number is highly misleading. The artical says that the guild wars franchise has now sold two million copies total, 75% of which are probably one player upgrading from chapter one to chapter two.
More events would be nice, but area-specific events should be avoided. Independence day for instance is an American holiday, and not celebrated in Europe. Events that tie into season changes, such as the beginning of summer and winter, are great choices, as are "made up" holidays based on the game world.

Lol...2 Million can't be dropped, it counts for games sold, you can't return these games because of their Key...When you have a current chapter out, and are also making another one, what point is there to focus on the old one, other than bug fixes? New content comes in new chapters, they already gave Prophecies Sorrow's furnace. If they didn't do anything to Prophecies, i wouldn't think they are retarted. I'm sure a ton of other people besides myself will buy the new games...

So...that's still 1 million per game. Proves my point even more that people will still buy the newer ones even if they don't touch the old ones...

I would be extremely tempted to quit playing GW if there was an Independance Day / Thanksgiving, and other America Only Holidays.
With Xmas and Halloween, most countries around the world have adopt these as traditions. I admit the current celebration of All Hallows Eve was started in America, and you guys are bigger on it that we are.
But if you had Independance Day, Thanksgiving and other naff holidays like that, then players in Europe, Asia etc wont care.
Lets have a Valentines holiday and get giant heartshaped hats - j/k

Ok I have two things first:
A) I was just throwing out some Ideas...
B) I said independence days Not fourth of july. And I could have sworn that more countries than the U.S. had an independence day.
"An Independence Day is an annual celebration commemorating the anniversary of a nation's assumption of independent statehood, usually after ceasing to be a colony or part of another state. Most countries honour their respective independence day as a national holiday."--wikipedia.org
and again I did not specifically designate that towards the U.s.
And anyway: wintersday, as it was called in game, was called that for a reason and that reason was not to offfend players. They could call it something such as Independencedays and for a series of weeks they celebrate something ingame.
But it doesnt have to be an area-specific holiday it could still be called independence day as an in-game holiday, scuh as tyria gaining independence from the mantle, charr or other things such as that.
Oh and by the way: "xmas" is a religious holiday and for all you know mayn people could have already quit playing guildwars because of it.(just to 1up you for catching the mistake I DIDNT make)
Edit: Also here's the link to the site I got the quote from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Independence_Day

Funny how they are not on the same day, some are months apart. But, to address this you say...

"A series of weeks." In a row? I don't want an event going for a month straight. Spread out? The event has no meaning to you at that time if you are not from a country that is celebrating an independence day.

Man, you sure did "1up" me eh? I feel really sad now
As you may or may not know, December 21st/22nd is the winter solstice. The celebration is about the returning of the sun and light. Strange how the event in guild wars revolved around a battle between dwayna and grenth for the return of the light, isn't it?
As I have said before, I am all for more events. I am not for events that only a part of the player base cares about.
